Founded in 1919, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art was founded by Father Gregory Gerrer, a Benedictine monk of considerable artistic talent. During Father Gerrer's travels to Europe, Africa and South America, he collected objects of artistic and ethnological value.

The museum's permanent exhibitions include Egyptian, Greek and Roman objects; art from the Renaissance through the early 20th century; and large holdings of Native American African, pre-Columbian, and Eastern cultural artifacts. In addition, the museum offers exciting special exhibitions throughout the year.

A center of arts and community, the museum offers something for everyone. People ages 3-103 enjoy classes at the museum. Most classes explore visual arts techniques and media or performance arts. The museum also offers tours and a rigorous field-trip program for visiting schools and student interest groups. All ages appreciate the museum's spring festival, Arts Trek, a family-friendly arts adventure. For information about Arts Trek, go to artstrek.org

Admission is $1 off for active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve, and veterans with ID.  The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is also a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
