Due to Threat of Severe Weather, Redbud Festival Canceled

SHAWNEE, OK, April 19, 2017 – Due to the impending threat of severe weather, the Redbud Festival, originally scheduled for this weekend, April 21-22, is cancelled.

The weekend was supposed to kick off on Friday with “Redbud Night on the Bricks”, a community dinner on Main Street, and continue Saturday with the Redbud Festival. Unfortunately, the weather forecast does not look conducive for outdoor activities. Meteorologists are predicting severe weather including heavy rain, strong winds, possible hail, and potential for tornados.

“We are absolutely disappointed,” said SEFF President, Dell Kerbs. “We considered moving the dinner indoors, but we were advised against even doing that because it would encourage families to get out in potentially dangerous weather. We want to keep everyone safe.”

The community dinner will be postponed until this summer, and be held in conjunction with Shawnee Trail Days, which is scheduled for June 17th.
