It’s official! Visit Shawnee’s Photo Contest for the year of 2019 is finally on, and submissions are already flying in. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late for you to enter. On the contrary, we encourage everyone in the Pottawatomie County area to go through their photos and pick their favorites—with any luck, you have a shot at winning one of several fabulous cash prizes, so what do you have to lose?

What do you need to know if you’d like to enter? Well, there are a few qualifying factors for photos that you’ll need to keep in mind. Submissions will need to be full-color digital images, taken since January 2017 in Pottawatomie County, and live up to certain standards of quality. You can find the rest of the rules at the bottom of this post, and it’s important that you follow them closely—submissions will be disqualified at Visit Shawnee’s discretion.

So, what sort of prizes are involved? For the top three overall photos, their winners will receive a cash prize of $750, $500, and $100 for first, second, and third place, respectively. There will be a winner in the “Life in Shawnee” category that receives a cash prize of $250, and a fan favorite determined by votes on Facebook and elsewhere will receive a cash prize of $100.

What kind of photos are we looking for? We use the photo contest as a resource for our social media content, and the sorts of things we use include, but are not limited to: photos featuring local restaurants and attractions, especially landmarks with regional or historical significance; photos featuring daily and seasonal weather phenomena, from sunsets to snow storms; particularly striking photos of nature and wildlife in the contest region, especially from parks and other green spaces; photos featuring “life in Shawnee,” including schools, community activities, police and fire departments, and so on; photos from local collegiate campuses, such as Oklahoma Baptist University and Gordon Cooper; and photos illuminating local Native American heritage.

While the main contest’s duration for submissions will run from January 28th through February 8th, your chance to get involved isn’t quite over—voting for fan favorite submission will be conducted on Facebook from February 12th through the 19th. Winners of all categories will be notified via email and announced on Facebook and the Visit Shawnee website on February 22nd.

For those of you interested in all the details, you can find the unabridged rules and guidelines on our website, right here. We’re excited to see all your submissions. You have until February 8th to make your submissions, however, so don’t waste time—go on out and give us your best shot of Shawnee!
