Kid Friendly Fun in Shawnee

Explore an Oklahoma-style castle or see an Egyptian mummy. Walk with butterflies or battle your parents in the Indoor nerf battlefield! Shawnee has a lot of fun so grab your parents, book a hotel room for a night or two, and experience all the kid-friendly activities in and around Shawnee.

The Aerospace Career Museum offers exhibits on everything that gives us lift, from hot air balloons to rockets and more. Open in the Shawnee Regional Airport Terminal, a visit may inspire a career in in aerospace industry.

See the first cabin in Shawnee at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Cultural Heritage Center. You’ll also see how the first early Potawatomi lived including life-sized replica of a handmade Potawatomi canoe and a wigwam, a traditional Potawatomi style home.

At the Mabee Gerrer Museum of Art, see an Egyptian mummy as well as Egyptian, Greek and Roman objects. If you have time, take a class or two and create your own art.

The Potawatomi County Museum is in an old train depot. It looks like a castle! Inside see a stuffed Alaskan bear, player piano, and several model train sets.

After being inside, explore the outdoors in one of our parks. They offer disc golf, skate area, slides, swings, and plenty of space to run and chase your little sister!

Or chase the butterflies! A wonderful butterfly garden is at our Pottawatomie County OSU Extension Office grounds. In the summer months, many species of butterflies and moths, bumble bees, and honey bees flutter through the garden feeding.

Explore the other side of nature at the National Arboretum on the Oklahoma Baptist University Campus. There’s 134 different species of trees! That’s a LOT of fingers and toes if you find and count them all!

Ready to cool off? Head to the Shawnee Splash Water Park! Slides. Rock wall. Splash pads. Diving boards. And of course, a large area to swim!

Shawnee also offers bowling, mini-putt golf, Nerfed – an indoor Nerf battlefield, a video game arcade, and skating. See all the entertainment options in Shawnee!

In neighboring Seminole, play in a castle maze, learn to ride a seqway, or see the wonders of science at the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum. Oklahoma City also offers a science museum. Adjacent to it is the Oklahoma City Zoo. Lots of kid fun in OKC.

You may need an entire week to take in all the fun! Or visit during one of our festivals and make a long weekend out of our visit to Shawnee.
