Shawnee, Oklahoma to be in National Spotlight

C-SPAN reveals Shawnee history and highlights authors during week-long visit

Historical photo of the Santa Fe Depot in Shawnee, OKThe Honorable Mayor Richard Finley and Vyve Broadband will welcome C-SPAN to Shawnee on Tuesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. CST at the Shawnee Public Library as they kick off a visit to record the history and non-fiction literary life of Shawnee on the cable network’s non-fiction book channel BookTV (on C-SPAN2) and history channel American History TV (on C-SPAN3).

In conjunction with its cable partner, Vyve Broadband, C-SPAN producers will reveal the stories and segments that will be explored by the national network.  During their time in Shawnee, C-SPAN producers will visit various literary and historic sites, interview local historians, non-fiction authors and conduct educational and community outreach in the area.

Local segments recorded during the week of February 4-7 will air on BookTV (on C-SPAN2, Vyve Broadband channel 20) and American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Vyve Broadband channel 21) throughout C-SPAN's special Shawnee weekend, March 3-4.


C-SPAN’s 2018 Cities Tour takes Book TV and American History TV on the road. BookTV (on C-SPAN2) and American History TV (on C-SPAN3) are featuring the literary life and history of each of these selected cities during special weekends on the public affairs network.


The programs C-SPAN produces in Shawnee will air throughout a special Shawnee feature weekend March 3-4--literary programming on Book TV (on C-SPAN2, Vyve Broadband channel 20) and history programming on American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Vyve Broadband channel 21).  C-SPAN is available in Shawnee on Vyve Broadband channel 19.

In partnership with Vyve Broadband, C-SPAN will also be bringing their 45-foot customized motor coach to Shawnee on Friday, February 16. The C-SPAN Bus visits communities around the country to engage teachers and students through interactive demonstrations.
