On the northwest corner of Broadway and West Ninth Street, on the ground of City Hall stands a cast iron bell with the marking "Liberty 1776-1976," commemorating the U.S. 200 year anniversary.
The plaque reads: "Dedicated to the citizens of Shawnee in the Bicentennial spirit and commemorating two hundred years of freedom / a past to remember (Liberty Bell emblem) a future to mold Dedicated July 4, 1976."
