Mola

"Mola" was inspired by a textile piece that a friend (Lucrecia Litherland) brought Julie Blackstone from her travels in Latin America. The Mola technique originated with the Kuna tribe in Panama. It is a reverse applique technique of fiber art that the Kuna people use as a decorative technique in clothing. I simply translated that layered color style to a paint medium, and designed the horse in that manner. " Mola was in the first "wave" of Shawnee's Horse in the City program.
